English-speaking postpartum care in the Netherlands
Giving birth far from home brings its own questions. How does care work here, and will it be offered in a language you are at ease in?
How postnatal care works here
In the Netherlands, most families receive kraamzorg: postnatal care at home in the first days after birth, arranged through your insurer. It is worth registering early in your pregnancy.
Many care organisations can work in English. Ask when you register.
Far from family
In many cultures, mothers and relatives step in after a birth. Far from home, that support is often missing. Many international families feel this most in the first weeks.
A retreat as an alternative
The Fourth Sanctuary is designed with international families in mind. Care, meals and rest are arranged for you, in a five-star hotel in the Netherlands.
Programme, stay and rates are shared personally on request.

What is the fourth trimester?
The fourth trimester describes the first weeks after birth, when mother and baby are both adjusting. What it means, and why it deserves care.
